The Institute of Archaeology and Heritage Studies (IAHS) has donated a valuable collection of archaeology books to the Department of History and Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna. These books were presented to second-year archaeology students to support their academic studies and research.

The book donation was officially handed over by Mr. Anuradha Piyadasa, Director of IAHS. On behalf of the department, Dr. Sevali Manatunga and a second-year student accepted the donation. The collection includes Dr. Siran Deraniyagala’s renowned works, The Prehistory of Sri Lanka: An Ecological Perspective and The Prehistory and Protohistory of Sri Lanka, along with IAHS publications and several significant titles in Sinhala and English.

Additionally, IAHS has sponsored the Gold Medal award for the Best Archaeology Student of the Department, which has now been awarded three times, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence in the field of archaeology.

We extend our appreciation to Mr. Amalka Wijesuriya, Lecturer at the department, for coordinating this initiative, as well as Ms. Viara and the second-year students for their support.
